Let the UN provide protection of the Iraqi oil fields! How do we get out of Iraq and still protect the oil supply?
We can't. But I am much less concerned about protecting the oil than I am about preventing nogoodniks such as Taliban and al Qaeda setting up bases there to work on mischief against the US. If the bad guys were to recover the WMD materials from Syria, they could do significant damage -- enough to make 9/11 look like a Sunday school picnic. How do we get out of Iraq and still protect the oil supply?
That is a question that if a quick answer existed, the US military would have been out long ago.
The whole thing wasn't very thought out to begin with. This administration miscalculated the odds and just figured it would happen like in Bosnia, except Arabs aren't Slavics. Every Arab you kill has about a hundred family members who'll get pissed and seek revenge, in any way, hence the suicide bombers.
I guess maybe as a cheap answer, I would suggest anouncing the occupation of oil fields in the south and make it clear to the world that until the Iraqis come up with a democratic government, the US would keep occupying the South to keep its oil interrests. Just come out and say it plainly and let the rest of the world fume, who cares? as long as we get our cheap oil. That way, the US would not have to appear so decietful and maybe less hated but understood.
Reminder, it's a cheap answer, LOL.
That is the BIG question and reaason we are still there. Maybe Saudi Arabia will help us.
We don't and that's why we are still there. Eventually we'll weasel the oil rights out of Iraq and then we will have a ';legitimate'; reason to have troops there, forever.
Since when has the UN protected anything or anyone?
Most of our oil comes from Africa and Venezula. Our oil prices are screwed up due to the fact that everyone belongs to OPEC, and that causes a rise in the prices of oil. There is still plenty of oil available even without Iraqi oil available. The prices going up are just a scam. It would be good if the UN were to oversee the Iraqi oil fields as it would make it an international board overseeing the oil, but I doubt that the UN is really up to it. I also am not sure that Iraq would let them in. Once we are gone, if we ever get the hell out of there, I think they are going to want control and not want anyone ever to enter their country again.
The UN couldn't protect it's lunch,it has no teeth .
A strong independent Iraq is the only answer, otherwise Iran invades and controls the oil and seaports.
How nice, you care about Iraq so much you want to help them protect their oil. Or is it your oil now?
