Refering to a typical oil %26amp; gas industry. UPS is crucial to keep the DCS (Distrubuted Control System), trip interlock system, compressor and pump control system to function at least for ~ 1 hour. This will buy time for safe shutdown if power outage will be longer than 1 hour. Normal UPS pack (rechargeable Ni-Cd batter) will work.

For higher voltage and power equipments (i.e. LV pumps and motor focusing on lube oil pumps and cooling fans motor). Generator set (usually powered by diesel) will be useful in providing back-up electricity again for safe system cooling down and shut down. How can we apply Industrial UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) in Oil %26amp; Gas and other Industry field?

Considering the amount of power needed, it can be pretty tough. I know of a plant that receives spent sulfuric acid from refineries, and burns off the hydrocarbons. The sulfuric acid dissociates, and is reconstituted further down the process line. Cooling results in a lot of waste heat, which goes to a waste heat boiler. The resultant steam runs a generator. Electricity is sold back to the power company. In the event of a power outage, the plant can operate at reduced capacity, but stay on line indefinitely. Natural gas must be consumed to keep the fuel stream going, though.
