What would happen to the US if Iran & Iraq simultaneously cut off their oil supply?

And if they managed to keep it cut continuously for half to one yearWhat would happen to the US if Iran %26amp; Iraq simultaneously cut off their oil supply?
Short answer really is nothing - We do not import from either of those countries as it stands. Longer answer you were looking for: Short term pandemonium. Longer term solving our energy problems. We have the means to do that already you know, just not the will. That would kick start us in a hurry, and would probably be best over all.

Question for you though: If those two countries did that. what do you think OPEC would do? Once that genie is let loose from the bottle, there is no stuffing it back in you know. Are they ready to cede the world oil market to another energy source?

We'd go back to horses and buggys....which actually would be a good thing for the environment...
Iraq would be the 51st state and Iran would be it's parking lot.
Not much. The US gets most of its oil from Mexico and Canada, contrary to popular belief.
The ultra-fast rise of the water-powered car!
Al Gore could freeze to death while proclaiming Global warming
Cutting off their oil would hurt them much more. Iran and Iraq are totally dependent on oil revenue.

I am all for it, I hope they do. I will laugh.
Since the supply of oil would be decreased, economic theory says prices of gas and oil would rise.
We don't purchase oil from Iran or Iraq. There is an oil embargo against Iranian products to the US, including oil. Most of the oil in Iraq is not fully functional because of the war and insurgent attacks. Iraq wants to use their oil to finance re-building their infrastructure. We could purchase oil from a third nation who receives their oil, but that would be against the boycott placed on them. It has no bearing on us whatsoever.
First of all Iraq will not cut off their oil supply, and neither would Iran.

The reason for this is simple, Iraq has a government appointed by the U.S.A, Iran's economy is mainly dependant on oil.

Lets just say they both did at the same time for half to one year, then Venezuala and other countries will be exporting 95 percent of its oil procuction to the U.S... The U.S. might also open up some of its reserves.

But before they do this there will be embargos on Iran and Iraq, applied by the U.N. but strongly backed by the U.S.
not much...both combine for a paltry percentage.
Iran would lose their ability to supply those insurgents in Iraq with weapons because they'd go broke...
Well then we might just have to persuade them to uncut off the oil.
Not too much on US. But will have strong effect on china, japan and some europian countries. Iran has stopped its oil supply once around 1952 for almost one year. For others information, Iran indirectly helped US to return democracy to Iraq as Saddam was Iran's enemy.
