Mostly because the world is a wee bit more complicated than that. Also for the corn question, imagine that all of the corn was actually turned into food to feed the starving people, BUT there is now no way to ship the food to those poor people because there isn't enough fuel to get it there.
A good question also is why is 1/3 of America's corn crops





going make fuel and not food for the hungry?
