The climate change to some scientists and others is due to human causes creating pollution. So if we cannot run our cars anymore and have to switch off the power supply for the manufacturing etc are we then safe? At least they cannot roll out the tanks anymore, drop bombs etc.The best thing that can happen for the earth's well being is when we run out of oil supply? No more pollution!
Running out of oil is the last thing that you would want to happen. If we do continue to consume oil down to the very last drop then that would mean that we as a species had just single handedly relesed an extremely large quantity of the Earth's storred carbon supplies back into the atmosphere. It is important to note that the fluctuations between hot and cold periods used to be greater but as the Earth stored carbon it served to dampen the range of these oscilations. Since we have now released so much of this stored carbon we have essentially pushed the earth back 1 billion years in its carbon storage and thus are begging the Earth to return to similar climatological oscilations as 1 billion years ago. This period was marked by hot peaks and long 50,000 year ice ages, punctuated by episodes of mass extinction and adaptation of the surviving species to continually fill these new niche during these oscillations. This might not concern some Humans that much as we have proven to be an adaptible species, but food shortages would become a reality, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. Look amongst your relatives and imagine that the food resources were only enough to provide for one out every ten of you and then ask yourself if that is an acceptable price to pay to continue to live a life dependant on releasing the Earth's stored carbon sources until every last drop of oil is spent?
As for all these depressing folks that specify that the US economy is too dependant on oil and that to run out would spell our doom. Well the important lesson here is that Oil consumption has just passed the half way point as far as the global supplies are concerned, so now is the best time to reinvest in renewable resources such that the end of oil will not be felt as these pesimists predict. The hydrogen engine, tidal generators, solar and wind farms. All these will require considerable investment and will create numerous jobs and a burgeoning economy. The hydrogen engine alone could reinvigorate the American automotive industry and could springboard America back into the #1 automotive producer in the world with a valuable export commodity that is not just driving the back of the American economy, but saving the world's environment as well. But hey, if we Americans want to continue to be blind to reality and wait until we do consume all the oil and then become the weakest ';big'; economy in the world as the EU and Japan race past us... well then to continue to push for Oil as our primary energy supply is a pretty good plot in achieving this and in earning a lot of global animosity in the process. If America wants to continue its dominance in the world's economies then the time for change is now! It's up to us if we want to be leaders and inovators in this change or if we want to allow our collective fears to blind us once again from the opportunities which are in front of us!The best thing that can happen for the earth's well being is when we run out of oil supply? No more pollution!
There is still a lot of coal.
And what will happen to the millions of unemployed created in this manner?
Cool... mass starvation and a reduction of the Human Population by about 3 or 4 Billion People.... nice solution, that. I know that's what I pray for every night.
It would be back to coal and wood. The landscape Willl soon be treeless the air thick with that surfer and smoke from coal heating. Mass starvation and war would break out all over the world because of the lack of food. (oil runs tractors and the trucks that carry food) If you do not have a gun others wil steel your food and your family will starve. It would be back to the day 200 years ago.
The best thing that can happen for the earth's well being is when we run out of PEOPLE ... No more pollution!
how will we stop our enemies? what if we had let hitler come on over and have his way? please, only white, blond hair blue eyers respond as you would be the only ones still alive today had we stopped polluting then. did you know that if we didn't have cars and still used horses, the enviroment would be in much worse shape than it is today..unless you consider walking in three feet of horse dung, kewl.
yes but no oil no fuel no cars do the math
As soon as the oil runs out they will start mining the methane hydrates from the ocean floor. There's 100 times more of that than there is/was oil reserves.
We're all going to die...
Such a simple mind, you must be a left coast liberal. Do you realize that with no oil, you will not have rubber? plastic? most chemicals? Have you ever been in a hospital? how many do you want to die? cut your self really good, How are you going to get to the doctor? walk? Food? are you ready to starve, or can you grow all your food, year round? electricity? without rubber insulators? not hardly, but what would it matter, everything that uses elect. is made or contains, plastics, or rubber. Any ideals of how many medicines are produced using oil based parts? yeah real good ideal, and the fighting, I assume you did not realize that there were wars before the 1900's you might want to do a little history reading.
By that time, earth will probably be uninhabitable. Think about it, all that oil is gonna be in the air. We'll have to live in domed cities
No oil no fuel. In way that will be good because we will start to use the sun for everything. Like we use to back in the day.
there shouldn't be any more fighting
That is right, but sad to say man is also very resourceful and will find other ways to polute the atmosphere that have not been thought of yet.
Beautiful! A little painful but truly the answer...james h.
This is hilarious! Do you realize that our entire economy would collapse? No food at the store. No jobs. No electricity. No internet. No telephones. Chaos and anarchy. Oil powers our way of life. I don't know anybody that wants to go back to riding a horse and living in a tent and taking a bath in a river.
Unfortunately the answer is No. Running out of petroleum oil supply is no guarantee of ';no more pollution'; because:
1. We wont run out of mineral petroleum oil for a long time, but the supply RELATIVE to demand will go down soon, so oil/coal/natural gas burning emissions may be at their maximum now.
2. Pollution from petroleum oil spills and burning refined oil (gasoline, LPG, etc) might stop when the petroleum oil does finally get to very low levels (50 yrs time) , but there is a huge amount of petroleum gas %26amp; coal in the Earth's crust and their derivatives cause pollution, esp. from burning.
3. If we do reach a 'no pollution' era' , it might be in part because of harnessing of Sun energy - coal burning emissions are now being successfully fed intto big tanks of alage (plants suspended in water ) to make more fuel.
There is at least one research team in USA and one company is USA that is already in operation.

There is no guarentee that all countries will use 'clean coal' processes.
4. Humans can pollute in a thousand ways other than burning fossil fuels like 'oil'.
I believe the solution is localisation of energy supply and demand (+ water and food)
It is a much bigger picture than just stopping the use of oil.
Here is another polluter that no one seems to mention or deal with. This not only adds to global warming but is reducing our water supply at an alarming rate.
The raising of cattle for beef consumption causes more global warming than all of the cars exhaust on this planet. It starts with thousands of sq. miles being cut down of tropical rainforest to raise much of the cattle. Then the amount of methane gas(a global warming gas) that is expelled by cattle. 100 million tons of methane gas a year just in the U.S. alone. The amount of water to raise these cattle is beyond belief also. It takes about 20 acres of land a year to supply the protein a person needs by eating beef and over 2500 gallons of water. For a vegetarian it takes 1 acre of land to supply the protein they need for one year and about 40 gallons of water. Stop eating beef and you will be doing more to stop global warming than many other opitions.
yeah! No more oil, no more pollution... no more anaethetics, no more transportation, no more defense against terrorism, no more anything made of plastic, no more lycra, no more tights, no more plastic cutlery, no more microchips, no more computers, no more ps3's...
oops. maybe not then.
THINK! Don't let it run out on us.
ya
look, no oil means no cars which means no pollution. but no cars can also lead to people being mad. if there is no oil, there will still be pollution but just not as much as there used to be. but since many of the transportation we use are run by fuel and oil, looks like everyone is going to be late for their job
