Is Iran's political unrest trouble for world oil supply? Why are we not drilling for oil in America?

Was John McCain ahead of the curve on this? Can America's unemployed handle another round of bad economic news?Is Iran's political unrest trouble for world oil supply? Why are we not drilling for oil in America?
Several times energy policies were put forth during the Bush administration that would have allowed domestic drilling.

Each time the Dems done everything in their power to prevent us from tapping our own resources. Is Iran's political unrest trouble for world oil supply? Why are we not drilling for oil in America?
America's energy policy since 1979 can be summed up as ';not produced here';.

Why would we want those dirty jobs in coal mining, railroads to move coal, oil drilling, nuclear plant construction, and their supplier industries?

Those are all old fashioned jobs and mostly blue collar. Our strategy is to get the Venezuela's of the world hooked on those jobs and then jerk the rug out from under them with our renewable energy ['green'] jobs.

America's unemployed? ';The first duty of every true revolutionary is to make things as much worse as possible.';

We need the construction workers to be unemployed -- their anger, suitably channeled by our allies in the press, is the fuel that will topple capitalism and this corrupt government and enable a new and fairer Constitution to replace the old, worn out concepts of the 18th century one.

After that, of course, the intellectual elites will naturally lead the country [as should have been the case all along] and we'll tell the businesses what goods to make and what prices to charge -- all in the best interests of the people, of course.

...
We aren't drilling in America because of the liberals and the EPA, they are worried about moving deer, yet they build subdivisions and cry because coyotes come into there neighborhoods and scare them. At the same time we haven't built an oil refinery in this nation in thirty years because the EPA makes it impossible, we have to have those as well for the oil to do us any good !
any unrest in the middle east is trouble for the worlds oil supply. we are not drilling in america because of liberals and a few republicans who are afraid of americas carbon footprint. any responsible politician could have thought like mccain. as far as americas unemployment i cant see it getting much worse. i think of the 70s and 80s and i dont think we are that bad nor will we get that bad.
We do drill oil. Ever been to Texas, Oklahoma, or Alaska? We just haven't tapped our reserves off our coast which really wouldn't help us any way. We consume a ton of energy. Drilling those extra holes would just delay the inevitable. We need to focus all our resources into an alternative source of energy that works and is economical or we need to make drastic cuts in our energy expenditure.
Oddly, it hasn't been a factor...yet.

But you are 100% right America needs to do everything in it's power to get of foreign oil. Including drilling in our own back yard.
For the last 20 years the Democrats have been saying it will take 5 years before we see the benefit of drilling here. That is there excuse, it doesn't make much sense now does it?
Dems couldn't care less if they destroy the US by not drilling for oil
I do agree we should tap into our reserves
There's a surplus of oil -- it's sitting in tankers waiting for the price to go up.

Bush said we're addicted to oil -- more drilling just feeds the addiction.
