What would happen in America if our oil supply was cut off all at once?

If OPEC decided they would pass us over for business with China and India, what would happen.





How long would our reserves last? Wouldn't it kill the US economy?What would happen in America if our oil supply was cut off all at once?
The US only produces 40% of what it uses.





There would be gas rationing and/or shortages and prices would spiike. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve SPR is reserved for military use in such a crisis.





The US would invade Venezuela and/or Mexico and steal their oil. We buy most of our OPEC oil from Venezuela. Our two largest sources of foreign oil are Mexico and Canada but they are non-OPEC.





Cheney and Bush would stay up partying way into the night.What would happen in America if our oil supply was cut off all at once?
The US economy would die before the oil ran out. There wold be panic buying and the stock market would go into free fall.





The dollar would loose its value which would kill the imports market on basic goods from overseas and there wold be massive political and social unrest.





Within a month America would look like New Orleans after Katrina, only without the water.
We would hurt badly. However most of our oil comes from North and South America. However if OPEC pulled out the speculators would go crazy and we would probably see $7-$10 a gallon





We would begin drilling in ANWAR though it would take about a year and a half to get anything out of there. (I only say a year and a half because the oil we buy tomorrow will not be in your gas tank until the end of December.
Our reserves would last less than a year, and I'm sure emergency powers would be invoked to drill in ANWR and on coastlines. The sick joke is that it would still take years to ramp up production enough to get a significant yield from those sources, and the potential for production is insignificant compared to the needs of the global market -- and since the economy would be tanking hard, we'd have to sell most of that oil to try to get our GDP back up, so don't have any illusions about ';American oil for Americans.';





This is just one of the reasons why it's vital that we STOP BURNING STUFF for our energy needs and switch over to renewable energy sources. Sunlight and wind are free forever, we just need to spend the money to build what harnesses them.
We would have to ration the reserves until they were gone. If we couldn't resolve the problem with OPEC I would think chaos would ensue, however as much as we are addicted to oil OPEC is addicted to money so I think the odds of this happening are slim to none at this time. As for our economy, it's on the skids as I write.
They properly may get cut off if terrorists contaminated larger volume's of oil.Off course terrorists are not smart enough to even think about contaminating large volume's of oil.
We would grind to nearly a stop in a couple of months.Yes it would kill the national economy.
